Painting in Finland

This is Chuck. I also had a couple of chances to relax and paint on Replot Island. This island has a tiny, but rugged fishing village, Bjorkoby, on the NW coast. The port of the village consists largely of boat houses and a cafe/museum that is in a very old fish salting house. Most interesting.

My first painting was that of Cafe Solteriet. Inside are 3 old fashioned fishing boats that still can sail today. Once a year the Finns and Swedes hold a race from this village to a little village on the Baltic Sea in Sweden.

Our friends have a fantastic summer house on the island. Johan also loves to paint, and he has experienced extraordinary success over the years with his painting. Numerous works hang in museums in northern Europe. While he was painting renditions of imaginary people, I was trying to paint a bright landscape of the view from the deck of the house.
